Introduction
VL Location is a System Screen module in Template Builder. It powers the account home location page — where customers view the zip code and IP saved as their home area, or set / change that home location.
On the website this is typically a standalone account page (for example /location-settings). It is not the onboarding share-location step. First-time onboarding uses VL Locate at /locate.
This article explains how to create the Location page in Template Builder, configure VL Location, publish it, and verify the experience on the web.
Purpose
The purpose of this article is to help you:
- Create a Location System Screen in Template Builder
- Add and configure the VL Location module
- Edit labels and brand colors
- Understand what customers see when they view, set, or change home location
- Publish and verify the live Location page
Scope
This article covers:
- Creating a System Screen page for location in Template Builder
- Adding VL Location to the page layout
- Module settings: Images, Brand, and Localization labels
- How the location page appears on the website
It does not cover:
- VL Locate (onboarding share-location at
/locate) - Enabling subscription / SVOD or blackout rules in AppCMS
- Account menu structure (how customers open this page from settings)
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have:
- Access to Template Builder for your site
- A VL Locate page at
/locateif customers will set home location during onboarding - Copy ready: page title, about-home text, zip / IP labels, change limit, confirm popup
Example used in this article
Throughout the steps below we use a Location page named Location at path/location. Replace the sample values with your own. Use the path your account settings already link to.
Location flow overview (website)
The flowchart below shows the typical customer journey on the website when VL Location is published.

Notes
- Customers usually open this page from account settings, not from onboarding.
- Back in the header returns to the previous page.
- The confirm popup asks whether to change (or set) home location to the current area.
- After confirm, the site asks the browser for location. If the customer blocks it, the site can still save an area from the network (IP) lookup.
- How often a customer may change home location depends on your site rules. The default label says twice a year.
Step 1: Open Template Builder
- Log into ViewLift Tools.
- Open AppCMS → Edit Template Builder (or open Template Builder for your site from your usual entry point).
- Confirm you are on the correct site and language (if localization is enabled, use the language selector on the Template Builder home screen before editing page copy).

Template Builder home. From here you create pages and open System Screens.
Step 2: Create the Location System Screen
The Location page must be a System Screen so that VL Location is available in the module picker.
- In Template Builder, go to Pages.
- Select + ADD NEW (or Create a New Page).
- Enter New Page Name:
Location(or your preferred name). - In New Page Type * Developers Only, select System Screen.
- Optionally set Target Language (If localized Page) if you are creating a language-specific Location page.
- Select CREATE.
Set the page path
- On Page Settings, set the page path to
/location-settings(recommended) unless account settings already use another path. - Confirm the page type is System Screen.
- Save page settings if prompted.

Page Settings. Set the path to /location-settings (or the path your account menu already uses).
Tip: Keep this path different from
/locate. VL Locate is the onboarding set-home step. VL Location is the account view / change page.
Step 3: Add VL Location to the layout
- Open the Location page.
- Select Edit Layout.
- Select Add a New Module.
- Because the page is a System Screen, the picker shows system modules.
- Search for or select VL Location.
- Insert the module into the page layout.

Edit Layout → Add a New Module. Search for and insert VL Location.

Location System Screen layout with VL Location placed on the page.
System Screens typically use a single primary system module. Avoid stacking unrelated content trays on this page.
Step 4: Configure Images
Open the VL Location module settings. Under Items → Images, add one or more promotional slides.
Each row includes:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Title | Headline for the slide. |
| Sub Title | Supporting headline. |
| Description | Body copy for the slide. |
| Image URL | Image for desktop / default. |
| Image URL (Mobile) | Optional image for mobile. |
| Image URL (Tablet) | Optional image for tablet. |
The website location page does not show these slides. They are for layouts that include the image panel.

Images. Optional Title, Sub Title, Description, and image URLs.
Step 5: Configure Localization — Labels
Expand Localization → Labels.
Page copy
| Label | What it controls | Default example |
|---|---|---|
| Location Text | Header title next to Back. | Location |
| About Location Text | Section heading. | About home location |
| Home Location Description | Explains why home area matters. | Your home area determines if you're able to watch content subject to regional network restrictions. We use your public IP to detect your location. If you are experiencing issues with your zip code, please enable your browser's location services for more accurate service. |
| Location Not Set Text | Shown when no home location is saved. | You have not Set your Home Base yet. Click the button below to continue. |
| Area Text | Heading above zip and IP when home is set. | Home Area |
| Zipcode Text | Label before the zip code. | Zip Code: |
| IP Address Text | Label before the IP address. | IP Address: |
| Change Location Text | Note under the details (for example change limits). | You can change your home location twice a year. |
| Change Location CTA Text | Button when a home location is already set. | Change Home Location |
| Set Location CTA Text | Set-home label in Template Builder. | Set your Home Location |
On the website, when home location is not set, the button shows Set Home Location. When it is set, the button uses Change Location CTA Text.
Confirm popup
| Label | What it controls | Default example |
|---|---|---|
| Home Change Text | Popup title. | Change Home Location |
| Home Location Text | Popup question. | Are you sure you want to change your home location to your current area? |
| Confirm CTA Text | Confirm action on layouts that use this label. | Confirm |
| Close CTA Text | Close / cancel on layouts that use this label. | Close |
IP change copy
| Label | What it controls | Default example |
|---|---|---|
| IP Change Text | Heading when the customer’s IP has changed. | IP Address Change |
| IP Change Description | Body copy for that state. | Your IP Address has changed recently. Please verify your location to access authenticated content. |
| Verify Location CTA Text | Verify button for that state. | Verify Location |
The main website location page uses the page copy, zip / IP, change note, and confirm popup title / description. IP-change labels are for experiences that show an IP-change prompt.
Step 6: Configure Brand
Expand Brand.
| Setting | Default (example) | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Module Background Color | #0D2148 |
Background behind the location panel on layouts that use it. |
| CTA Background Color | #2B426E |
Background of the zip / IP details card on the website. |
Match these colors to the rest of the account pages.
Step 7: Save and publish the Location page
- Save the module settings.
- Review the page layout once more.
- Publish the Location System Screen.
Until the page is published, apps and web will not show your latest Location configuration.
Changes can take several minutes to appear because of caching. To verify sooner, use a private window, another browser, or clear cookies and cache.
Confirm the account settings link (if you use one) points to this page path.
Step 8: How it looks on the website
After publish, open your site’s Location URL, for example:
https://www.example.com/location
Header and about
Customers usually see:
- Back plus Location Text
- About Location Text
- Home Location Description
Home already set
- Area Text
- Zipcode Text and the saved zip
- IP Address Text and the saved IP
- Change Location Text
- Change Home Location
The details card uses CTA Background Color.

Home not set
- Location Not Set Text
- Change Location Text
- Set Home Location

Confirm and save
- The customer selects Set Home Location or Change Home Location.
- A popup shows Home Change Text and Home Location Text.
- Confirm asks the browser for location and saves the new home area.
- Cancel closes the popup and leaves the page unchanged.
Verification checklist
- Location page exists as a System Screen
- Page path is
/location(or the path account settings use) - VL Location is on the layout
- Path is not
/locate - About, not-set, zip, IP, change-limit, and popup copy are reviewed
- Brand colors match account pages
- Page is published
- A signed-in customer with no home location sees Location Not Set Text and Set Home Location
- A signed-in customer with a home location sees zip, IP, and Change Home Location
- Confirm updates the saved area; cancel leaves it unchanged
- Back returns to the previous page
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| VL Location is not in the module list | Confirm the page type is System Screen. Search for VL Location. |
| Page path is wrong | Open Page Settings. Use /location or the path your account menu uses — not /locate. |
| Customer expected the onboarding Continue / zip flow | That is VL Locate at /locate. |
| Zip and IP are missing | Home location is not set yet, or the customer needs to complete Locate / Set Home Location. |
| Change button always says Set Home Location | Home location is not saved on the account yet. |
| Labels do not change on the site | Save module settings, publish the page, and allow cache to clear. For localization, edit labels in the correct language. |
| Confirm does not update zip | Allow location in the browser, or wait for the network lookup if location is blocked. |
| Account menu opens a 404 | Point the account Location link at this page path. |
Best Practices
- Use one Location System Screen at a stable account path (
/location). - Keep
/locateand/locationas separate pages. - Explain why home area matters in Home Location Description.
- Keep the change-limit sentence accurate for your site rules.
- Localize header, about text, and buttons when the site has multiple live languages.
- Test not-set, already-set, confirm, and cancel before launch.
- Publish after every meaningful change — draft System Screens do not update production.
FAQs

System Screen. Set a stable path such as /location.
Q. What is the module name in the picker?
VL Location (this is the Template Builder caption for VL Location 01).
Q. How is this different from VL Locate?
VL Locate (/locate) is the onboarding step to share location and set home. VL Location is the account page to view or change that home location.
Q. What do customers see if they have never set a home location?
Location Not Set Text and Set Home Location.
Q. Can they change home location later?
Yes. Change Home Location opens a confirm popup, then updates the saved area.
Q. Does blocking the browser location stop the change?
The site can still save an area from the network (IP) lookup after confirm.
Important Information
- VL Location must be placed on a System Screen.
- Do not use
/locatefor this page. That path is VL Locate. - Create the page, add the module, configure copy and colors, then publish.
- Cache can delay frontend updates by several minutes.
