VL Authentication With Password Module

Prev Next

Introduction

VL Authentication With Password is a Template Builder module for email-and-password sign-in on connected TV and OTT devices.

This module is not available on the website, iOS, or Android. Configure it in Template Builder, then verify the result on a supported TV or OTT app (for example Roku, Fire TV, Smart TV, or Apple TV).

This article explains how to create the Authentication page, add and configure VL Authentication With Password, publish it, and check the experience on a supported app.

Purpose

The purpose of this article is to help you:

  • Create an Authentication Screen or System Screen for password sign-in
  • Add and configure the VL Authentication With Password module
  • Set colors and the labels used on the password sign-in screen
  • Publish the page and verify it on a supported TV or OTT app

Scope

This article covers:

  • Creating the Authentication page in Template Builder
  • Adding VL Authentication With Password
  • Layout colors and hide options
  • Content labels: Title, Submit CTA, Continue CTA, and Password Reset Link Text
  • Platform availability
  • Publishing the page

It does not cover:

  • Website sign-in (VL Authentication 01 and VL Authentication 02)
  • Turning password sign-in on at the service level for the website
  • Creating the Create Profile page
  • Full TV provider (TVE) onboarding

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • Access to Template Builder with permission to create, edit, and publish pages
  • Access to a supported TV or OTT app build for verification
  • Brand colors and copy ready for the sign-in heading, buttons, and password-reset link

Step 1: Create the Authentication page

You can start a new page in either of these ways:

  1. Open Template Builder.
  2. Start Create New Page from one of these locations:
    • On the Template Builder home screen, select + New Page.
    • On the home Page Overview, select View All Pages, then select New Page.
  3. Enter a Page Name, such as Authentication With Password.
  4. Under Page Type, select Authentication Screen or System Screen.
  5. Enter a Page Path required by your TV or OTT apps.
  6. If localization is enabled, choose the Target Language.
  7. Select Create Page.

The page type cannot be changed after the page is created.

Create New Page with Authentication Screen or System Screen selected as the Page Type. Start from + New Page on the Template Builder home screen, or from New Page on View All Pages.

Also available on: Modular Page and Marketing Page. For the standard password sign-in experience on TV, use an Authentication Screen or System Screen.

Step 2: Add the VL Authentication With Password module

  1. Open the new page in the Template Builder editor.
  2. Select Add Modules.
  3. Open the Authentication group, or search for VL Authentication With Password.
  4. Select VL Authentication With Password to add it to the page.
  5. Select the module on the page to open its settings.

If the module does not appear in the list, clear the platform filter or select a TV / OTT platform. VL Authentication With Password is hidden when the editor is filtered to Web, iOS, or Android only.

Step 3: Configure Layout

Open Layout and configure:

Setting Description Default
Background Background color of the authentication module. #0D2148
Active CTA Background color of the primary button when it is available. #D2393B
Input Background Background color of the email and password fields. #2B426E
Disabled CTA Background color of the primary button when it is not available. #FFFFFF
Text Primary text color on the module. #FFFFFF
Error Color reserved for error styling. #FF0000
Hide Mobile Number Hides mobile-number entry on supported experiences. Off
Hide Email Hides email entry on supported experiences. Off
Modal Background Background color of password or email confirmation modals on supported devices. #212121
Input Text Text color inside the email and password fields. #FFFFFF

This screen is built for email-and-password sign-in. Leave Hide Email off unless your device experience is designed to hide the email field.

Step 4: Configure Content labels

Open Content and review these localizable labels:

Setting Description Default
Title Main heading on the sign-in screen. Create an account or sign in
Submit CTA Label on the control that submits email and password. Submit
Continue CTA Label on the continue control on supported steps. Continue
Password Reset Link Text Label for the control that starts a password reset. Send Password Reset Link

If your site supports multiple languages, review these values in every published language.

On supported devices, customers typically also see an email field and a password field. Those placeholders default to Enter email address and Enter password. They are not separate fields in this module’s current form.

Step 5: Review delivery settings

The inspector can also show these common settings:

Setting Description Default
Platforms Limits where this instance of the module is delivered. Do not select Web, iOS, or Android only. No explicit restriction
Enable Personalization Appears only when personalization is enabled for the site. Off

VL Authentication With Password is not enabled for the website, iOS, or Android. Leave Enable Personalization off unless your site’s personalization setup requires this module to participate.

Step 6: Publish the page

  1. Review the page layout and module settings.
  2. Select Publish in the page toolbar.
  3. In the confirmation dialog, select Publish Page.
  4. Wait for the publish action to complete.

Until the page is published, TV and OTT apps will not show your latest password sign-in configuration.

Step 7: How it looks on a supported app

Open the password sign-in screen on a supported TV or OTT app after you publish the page.

Customers typically see:

  1. Heading — from Title
  2. Email and password fields
  3. Submit — from Submit CTA
  4. Continue — from Continue CTA, on supported steps
  5. Password reset — from Password Reset Link Text, when that control is shown

The exact layout, remote-control behavior, and any confirmation modals depend on the app. Confirm colors and labels on your target devices rather than on the website.

This module does not render on the website. A web URL is not the verification path.

Verification checklist

  • The page type is Authentication Screen or System Screen
  • Page path matches what your TV or OTT apps expect
  • VL Authentication With Password is on the page
  • Layout colors, Modal Background, and Input Text match the device design
  • Hide Email is off unless the device experience requires it
  • Title, Submit CTA, Continue CTA, and Password Reset Link Text are reviewed for launch language(s)
  • Platform filter is not limited to Web, iOS, or Android while editing
  • The page is published
  • A supported TV or OTT app shows the expected heading, fields, and buttons
  • The website is not used as the verification surface for this module

Troubleshooting

Problem What to check
VL Authentication With Password is not in the module list Confirm the page type is Authentication Screen, System Screen, Modular Page, or Marketing Page. Clear a Web, iOS, or Android-only platform filter.
Nothing appears on the website Expected. This module is not enabled for web. Verify on a supported TV or OTT app.
Nothing appears on iPhone or Android phone Expected. This module is not enabled for iOS or Android. Verify on TV or OTT.
Labels do not change on the device Save the module settings, publish the page, and allow cache to clear. For localization, edit labels in the correct language.
Email field is missing Turn Hide Email off and publish.
Colors do not match the rest of the TV app Reopen Layout, commit Background, Active CTA, Input Background, Modal Background, and Input Text, then publish.
Password reset does not appear Confirm Password Reset Link Text is set, publish the page, and verify on the device. Reset delivery also depends on your site’s email setup.
Changes do not appear immediately Confirm the page is published, then relaunch the app after allowing time for cache updates.

Best Practices

  • Use one Authentication page at a stable path that your TV apps already expect.
  • Enable this module only if your TV or OTT apps use email-and-password sign-in.
  • Match Background, Active CTA, and Input Background to the rest of the TV experience.
  • Keep Title, Submit CTA, and Password Reset Link Text short enough to read on a 10-foot screen.
  • Localize Content labels when the site has more than one live language.
  • Do not rely on website preview for this module.
  • Test at least one supported TV or OTT app before launch.
  • Publish after every meaningful change.

FAQs

Q. What page type should I use for VL Authentication With Password?
