Article summary

You can set up notifications for your apps and website to keep your users informed (either via email or app alerts) of the team/game updates, offers, news, and happenings.

To enable notifications, you'll need to do the following:

Set up your comms

There are many ways to activate comms with your users: it could be through an email campaign or push notifications on phone apps.
If you use Mailchimp to manage email campaigns, see this MailChimp documentation on how to create a campaign.
To create push notifications using Firebase, see this ViewLift article.

Create a Notifications page in the Template Builder

From the Template Builder, create a User page with the title Notifications & Alerts and the permalink as for example, "/notifications". Once you've created the page, pull the VL Notification module into the page.

When you click into the module settings menu, you will see the following menu and its sub-menu items.

ItemDescription
Localisation > Labels All the screen elements in the Notifications page come from the Label fields.
Open the Labels section and do a manual find of the text elements and messages you want to change in this module.
PlatformsAdd Android, iOS, and Web.

When you're ready, click Publish.

This video tutorial shows how to enable notifications on the web.

Frontend workflow

Notifications page during sign-up

Users have the option to personalize their notification preferences at the time of onboarding. This is an optional step and users can always enable notifications later from the user's Account Settings menu.

Enabling Notifications

Upon clicking this toggle button, a native notification pop-up screen will be displayed. This pop-up will appear on both Android and iOS devices.

Upon granting permission for native notifications and enabling notifications within the app, users will receive push notifications on their devices.

Team-Specific Alerts

If the user has not selected any specific teams during personalization but has enabled notifications, alerts will be enabled for all teams by default.
