# VL Raw HTML Module
## Introduction
**VL Raw HTML** is a module in **Template Builder** for placing **custom HTML** on a page — a heading, formatted copy, an embed, or another trusted snippet your site needs that is not covered by a standard tray.
You can add it on a **System Screen** (system picker) or on a **Modular Page** (same caption, **VL Raw HTML**). On the website, a **Title** can appear above the rendered HTML.
This article explains how to add **VL Raw HTML**, enter HTML, publish, and verify the block on the web.
## Purpose
The purpose of this article is to help you:
- Add **VL Raw HTML** to a System Screen or Modular Page
- Enter Title, Description, HTML (**Text**), and Align
- Understand how the block looks on the **website**
- Publish and verify the live HTML
## Scope
This article covers:
- Adding **VL Raw HTML** in **Template Builder**
- Module settings: **Title**, **Description**, **Text**, and **Align**
- How the block appears on the **website**
It does not cover:
- **VL SportsRadar Module** (a separate SportsRadar block)
- Building a full page from trays and masthead
- Writing or debugging third-party embed code
## Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have:
- Access to **Template Builder** for your site
- Trusted HTML ready to paste (only use markup you control or have approved)
- A page to place the block on (System Screen or Modular Page)
> **Example used in this article** Throughout the steps below we add **VL Raw HTML** to a System Screen named **Custom HTML** at path `/custom-html`. Replace the sample path and markup with your own. For a sports site you might use a short City United welcome block.
---
## Step 1: Open Template Builder
1. Log into **ViewLift Tools**.
2. Open **AppCMS → Edit Template Builder** (or open Template Builder for your site from your usual entry point).
3. Confirm you are on the correct site and language (if localization is enabled, use the language selector on the Template Builder home screen before editing page copy).
---
## Step 2: Open or create the page
**VL Raw HTML** is available on a **System Screen** and on a **Modular Page**.
### System Screen
1. In Template Builder, go to **Pages**.
2. Open an existing System Screen, or select **+ ADD NEW**.
3. If creating a page: enter **New Page Name** (for example `Custom HTML`), set **New Page Type * Developers Only** to **System Screen**, then select **CREATE**.
4. On **Page Settings**, set a stable path (for example `/custom-html`).
5. Save page settings if prompted.
### Modular Page
1. Open the Modular Page where the HTML should appear.
2. You do not need a dedicated System Screen if the snippet belongs on an existing content page.
---
## Step 3: Add VL Raw HTML to the layout
1. Open the page.
2. Select **Edit Layout**.
3. Select **Add a New Module**.
4. Search for or select **VL Raw HTML**.
5. Insert the module into the page layout.
On a System Screen the picker lists this module with other system blocks. On a Modular Page, search for the same caption: **VL Raw HTML**.
---
## Step 4: Configure the module
Open the **VL Raw HTML** module settings.
| Field | Description | Default example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Title** | Optional heading above the HTML on the website. Leave empty for no heading. | *(empty)* |
| **Description** | Description field in Template Builder. | *(empty)* |
| **Text** | The HTML to render. | `<h1>Enter Raw HTML here</h1>` |
| **Align** | Alignment field in Template Builder. | *(empty)* |
Paste only trusted HTML into **Text**. Replace the default heading with your markup.
Template Builder does not allow a standard `<script>` tag in this module. If you include one, you see:
`This module does not support script tag. please replace script tags with vlscript to proceed`
Use a `vlscript` tag instead of `script` when an approved embed requires a script. The Template Builder preview strips `script` tags so the canvas does not run them.
---
## Step 5: Save and publish
1. Save the module settings.
2. Review the page layout once more.
3. **Publish** the page.
Until the page is published, the live site will not show your latest HTML.
Changes can take several minutes to appear because of caching. To verify sooner, use a private window, another browser, or clear cookies and cache.
---
## Step 6: How it looks on the website
After publish, open the page path, for example:
Or open the Modular Page where you placed the block.
### What customers see
- **Title**, if you entered one
- The rendered **Text** HTML (headings, paragraphs, lists, images, links, and similar markup)
If **Title** is empty, only the HTML appears.
If **Text** is empty, the block has no HTML content.
---
## Verification checklist
- **VL Raw HTML** is on the layout
- **Text** contains only trusted, reviewed HTML
- There are no `<script>` tags (use `vlscript` only when required)
- **Title** is set if you want a heading, or left empty
- Page is **published**
- The live page shows the heading (if set) and the rendered HTML
- Links and images in the HTML open as expected
---
## Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
| --- | --- |
| **VL Raw HTML** is not in the picker | Search for **VL Raw HTML**. On a System Screen it is in the system list. On a Modular Page use the same caption. |
| Error about a script tag | Remove `<script>` tags. The message tells you to use `vlscript` instead. |
| Title does not appear | **Title** is empty. The website only shows a heading when Title has a value. |
| HTML does not appear | **Text** is empty, or the page is not published. Allow cache to clear. |
| Preview does not match the site | Template Builder preview strips `script` tags. Check the published website. |
| Wrong language copy | Edit **Title**, **Description**, and **Text** in the correct language, then publish. |
---
## Best Practices
- **Paste only trusted HTML.** Do not paste unknown or unverified markup.
- **Keep the block small.** Prefer a standard tray or rich-text module when you only need a title and paragraph.
- **Leave Title empty** when the HTML already includes its own heading.
- **Replace script with vlscript** when an approved widget requires a script.
- **Localize Text** when the site has multiple live languages.
- **Publish after every meaningful change.**

## FAQs
**Q. What page type should I use?** A **System Screen** if the HTML is the main content of a dedicated page. A **Modular Page** if the snippet sits with other trays.
**Q. What is the module name in the picker?** **VL Raw HTML**.
**Q. Why is the HTML field called Text?** That is the field title in Template Builder. Paste your HTML there.
**Q. Can I use a normal script tag?** No. Template Builder blocks `<script>` and asks you to use `vlscript` instead.
**Q. Does Description show on the website?** The website shows **Title** (when set) and the rendered **Text**. Use **Description** in Template Builder if your workflow stores a note there.
---
