It holds the copy and brand colors for a **password reset** screen — title, new password field, retype password field, submit button, and validation messages. This article explains how to create a Forget Password page in Template Builder, configure **VL Forget Password**, and publish it. It also explains how **Forgot Password** appears on the **website** sign-in page (that experience is part of Authentication, not this module). ## Purpose The purpose of this article is to help you: - Create a **Forget Password** System Screen in Template Builder - Add and configure the **VL Forget Password** module - Edit Images, Labels, Errors, and Brand colors - Understand how Forgot Password works on the **website** sign-in page - Publish the Forget Password page for platforms that load this System Screen ## Scope This article covers: - Creating a System Screen page for Forget Password in **Template Builder** - Adding **VL Forget Password** to the page layout - Module settings: Images, Brand, Localization (Labels and Errors) - How the **Forgot Password** link works on the website Authentication page It does not cover: - **VL Authentication 01** / **VL Authentication 02** as the full sign-in page (except the Forgot Password link) - **VL Create Profile** - Configuring SSO or an external password-reset URL in AppCMS - Sending reset emails or changing password rules in identity settings ## Prerequisites Before you begin, ensure you have: - Access to **Template Builder** for your site - Access to **ViewLift Tools** / AppCMS if your site uses an external reset URL or password sign-in - Copy ready: title, new password placeholder, retype placeholder, Submit, validation messages - Brand colors ready if you will customize the reset screen > **Example used in this article** Throughout the steps below we use a page named **Forget Password**. Replace the sample values with your own. Use the path your site and apps already expect for password reset. --- ## Step 1: Open Template Builder 1. Log into **ViewLift Tools**. 2. Open **AppCMS → Edit Template Builder** (or open Template Builder for your site from your usual entry point). 3. Confirm you are on the correct site and language (if localization is enabled, use the language selector on the Template Builder home screen before editing page copy). --- ## Step 2: Create the Forget Password System Screen The Forget Password page must be a **System Screen** so that **VL Forget Password** is available in the module picker. 1. In Template Builder, go to **Pages**. 2. Select **+ ADD NEW** (or **Create a New Page**). 3. Enter **New Page Name**: `Forget Password` (or your preferred name). 4. In **New Page Type * Developers Only**, select **System Screen**. 5. Optionally set **Target Language (If localized Page)** if you are creating a language-specific page. 6. Select **CREATE**. ### Set the page path and function 1. On **Page Settings**, set a stable path (for example `/forget-password`) unless your site already uses another reset path. 2. Confirm the page type is **System Screen**. 3. If your site uses page functions, set the function to **Forgot Password**. 4. Save page settings if prompted. > **Tip:** Keep this path consistent with any reset URL you configure for the site. Website sign-in does not automatically open this module. See **Step 8**. --- ## Step 3: Add VL Forget Password to the layout 1. Open the Forget Password page. 2. Select **Edit Layout**. 3. Select **Add a New Module**. 4. Because the page is a System Screen, the picker shows **system** modules. 5. Search for or select **VL Forget Password**. 6. Insert the module into the page layout. System Screens typically use a single primary system module. Avoid stacking unrelated content trays on this page. --- ## Step 4: Configure Images Open the **VL Forget Password** module settings. Under **Forget Password Options → Images**, add one or more promotional slides. Each row includes: | Field | Description | | --- | --- | | **Title** | Headline for the slide. | | **Sub Title** | Supporting headline. | | **Description** | Body copy for the slide. | | **Image URL** | Image for the slide. | A single row shows one banner. Multiple rows can appear as a carousel on supported experiences. --- ## Step 5: Configure Localization — Labels Expand **Localization → Labels**. | Label | What it controls | Default example | | --- | --- | --- | | **Forget Password** | Screen title. | `Forget Password` | | **New Password TextField PlaceHolder** | Placeholder for the new password field. | `New Password` | | **Retype Password TextField PlaceHolder** | Placeholder for the confirm-password field. | `Re-Type Password` | | **Submit CTA Text** | Submit button. | `Submit` | | **Password Validation Message** | Shown when the new password does not meet the rules. | `Password must contain at least 12 characters and 4 of the following: An uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number, a special symbol` | | **Password Mismatch Message** | Shown when the two password fields do not match. | `Password is not matching` | These labels describe a **set a new password** form (new password, retype, Submit). They are not the **Forgot Password?** link on the website sign-in page — that link is edited on **VL Authentication 02** (**Forget Password Text**). --- ## Step 6: Configure Localization — Errors Expand **Localization → Errors**. | Label | When it is used | Default example | | --- | --- | --- | | **Default error** | General processing failure during reset. | `There was an error processing your request.` | --- ## Step 7: Configure Brand Expand **Brand**. | Setting | Default (example) | Purpose | | --- | --- | --- | | **Module Background Color** | `#0D2148` | Background behind the reset panel. | | **Modal Background Color** | `#212121` | Background of the reset modal / card. | | **Active CTA Color** | `#D2393B` | **Submit** button when it is available. | | **Disabled CTA Color** | `#FFFFFF` | **Submit** button when it is not available. | | **Input Background Color** | `#2B426E` | Password field background. | | **Input Text Color** | `#FFFFF` | Text typed in the password fields (this is the default value in Template Builder). | | **Text Color** | `#FFFFF` | Title and supporting text (this is the default value in Template Builder). | | **Error Color** | `#FF0000` | Validation and error text. | Match these colors to Authentication so sign-in and reset feel like one product. --- ## Step 8: Save and publish the Forget Password page 1. Save the module settings. 2. Review the page layout once more. 3. **Publish** the Forget Password System Screen. Until the page is published, apps and other experiences that load this System Screen will not show your latest copy and colors. Changes can take several minutes to appear because of caching. To verify sooner, use a private window, another browser, or clear cookies and cache. Also publish your Authentication page (see **VL Authentication 01** / **VL Authentication 02**) so the **Forgot Password?** link on sign-in is live. --- ## Step 9: How Forgot Password works on the website The current **website** sign-in page does **not** load **VL Forget Password** as a standalone reset form. Customers reset a password from **Authentication**, when password sign-in is enabled. ### On Authentication When the site uses email/password sign-in, the website form can show: - Email (or phone) field - Password field - **Forgot Password?** — label from **VL Authentication 02** → **Forget Password Text** (default `Forgot Password?`) | Condition | What happens | | --- | --- | | Password sign-in is not enabled | **Forgot Password?** is not shown. | | A reset URL is configured for the site | **Forgot Password?** is available and opens that URL (often in a new tab). | | No reset URL is configured | **Forgot Password?** is visible but not available to use. | ### This module vs the website link | Item | Where you edit it | What customers see | | --- | --- | --- | | **Forgot Password?** on sign-in | **VL Authentication 02** → **Forget Password Text** | Link on `/authentication` (and checkout sign-in when password sign-in is on) | | Reset URL | Site / SSO settings in AppCMS | Destination of that link | | New password / retype / Submit copy | **VL Forget Password** Labels | Reset form on experiences that load this System Screen | Do not expect `https://www.example.com/forget-password` to show this module’s form on the current website unless your site is built to load that page. --- ## Verification checklist - Forget Password page exists as a **System Screen** - Page path is the reset path your site and apps expect - Page function is **Forgot Password** when your site uses page functions - **VL Forget Password** is on the layout - Labels (title, placeholders, Submit, validation, mismatch) are reviewed - **Default error** is reviewed - Brand colors match Authentication - Optional Images are configured when used - Page is **published** - Authentication is published with password sign-in settings you intend - On the website, **Forgot Password?** appears only when password sign-in is enabled - If you use an external reset URL, the link opens that URL --- ## Troubleshooting | Problem | What to check | | --- | --- | | **VL Forget Password** is not in the module list | Confirm the page type is **System Screen**. | | Website `/forget-password` is blank or shows no reset form | The current website sign-in flow does not load this module as a standalone page. Use **Forgot Password?** on Authentication. | | **Forgot Password?** is missing on the website | Enable password sign-in. Edit **Forget Password Text** on **VL Authentication 02**. | | **Forgot Password?** is visible but cannot be selected | Configure the site reset URL in AppCMS / SSO settings. | | Link goes to the wrong place | Update the reset URL in AppCMS. Changing **VL Forget Password** labels does not change that URL. | | Labels do not change on apps or other platforms | Save module settings, publish the page, and allow cache to clear. For localization, edit labels in the correct language. | | Validation copy does not match your password rules | Update **Password Validation Message** to match the rules your identity settings actually enforce. | --- ## Best Practices - **Use one Forget Password System Screen** with a stable path. - **Edit the website link on Authentication**, not only on this module. - **Keep validation copy accurate** — the default message describes a 12-character password with mixed character types. - **Match Brand colors** to Authentication. - **Localize** title, placeholders, Submit, and error copy when the site has multiple live languages. - **Publish after every meaningful change** — draft System Screens do not update production. --- ## FAQs **Q. What page type should I use for VL Forget Password?** **System Screen**. **Q. What is the module name in the picker?** **VL Forget Password**. **Q. Does the website open this module when a customer selects Forgot Password?** No. On the current website, **Forgot Password?** is on the Authentication page. It opens the reset URL configured for the site when one is set. **Q. Where do I change the Forgot Password? label on sign-in?** On **VL Authentication 02**, label **Forget Password Text** (default `Forgot Password?`). **Q. Why does the title say Forget Password instead of Forgot Password?** That is the Template Builder module and default title. The website sign-in link default is **Forgot Password?**. **Q. What does the reset form include?** **Forget Password** title, **New Password**, **Re-Type Password**, **Submit**, plus validation and mismatch messages. **Q. Is this the same as VL Create Profile?** No. **VL Create Profile** is a separate System Screen for creating a profile after sign-up. --- ## Important Information - **VL Forget Password** must be placed on a **System Screen**. - The current **website** does not use this module as the `/authentication` reset form. Website customers use **Forgot Password?** on Authentication when password sign-in is enabled. - The **Forgot Password?** label and the reset URL are configured on Authentication and in AppCMS, not only on this module. - Create the page, add the module, configure copy and colors, then **publish**. - Cache can delay frontend updates by several minutes. --- ## Glossary | Term | Definition | | --- | --- | | VL Forget Password | System Screen module for new-password / retype / Submit reset copy. | | Forgot Password? | Link on the website Authentication page when password sign-in is enabled. | | System Screen | Template Builder page type used for sign-in, reset, checkout, and other system flows. | | Password validation message | Copy shown when the new password does not meet the site rules. | | Password mismatch message | Copy shown when the two password fields do not match. | --- ## Contact Support If you need help beyond this article, contact the ViewLift support team. - **Email:** techsupport@viewlift.com - **Phone (US):** +1-800-859-0420 - **Phone (UK):** +44-203-014-8921 Support hours: B2C requests are handled Monday to Friday.
